Haiti *E* – June 16, 1989 – March 29, 2014

It is with deep sadness that we let you know of the passing away of an amazing mare. Although Haiti was recently retired from the breeding herd, she was allowed to spend her last months at the farm… in Erin, surrounded by generations of her offspring. Although she was “bellied up to the bar” at the round bale feeder yesterday afternoon, when the horses were checked on Saturday morning she had already passed away. She was able to spend her last year in true “retirement”, as the queen of her own domain. She died peacefully, with little evidence of struggle. She simply laid down and allowed herself to go, at almost 25 years old. True to her own form, she did it her way! She was a truly great broodmare, having a profound influence on our genetic base. She was the dam of three breeding stallions – Heinzelmann (Storyteller), Hilton, and Humble, as well as several great mares, including Heidi. Each of these stallions have also produced broodmares for us.
Truly a sad day for all of us at the farm, as we said good-bye to an icon at Galten Farms, and of the Trakehner world!
